Mickelson Changes Swing Coaches
It’s Official – Phil Mickelson has decided to stop using Rick Smith as his primary swing coach and give Butch Harmon a shot at keeping his driver in play. Mickelson has struggled with his driver (mostly missing it left under pressure) for a few years now – and without question – for Phil to make a run at more majors, he needs a more efficient long game. Can Butch Harmon be the answer? I think yes.
As a teacher, I realize students sometimes need to hear things a little differently to make a step in their swings. Often they can become desensitized to the same information over and over again. David Leadbetter, one of the world’s top instructors, agrees. “Sometimes, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what’s going on; sometimes you just need a little different communication,” said Leadbetter. “Butch is not going tell him a whole lot different than what Rick was telling him, but he might tell him a different way. Phil’s inconsistencies with his driver have created a lot of problems.”

Annika to Reduce Schedule

Annika Sorenstam’s bad back will keep her from a full schedule on the 2007 LPGA Tour. Sorenstam learned last week that she had a ruptured and herniated disk and will miss at least a month from the LPGA Tour. Still, even with a reduced schedule, Annika will set her sights on the Major events this summer.
“I will play less, prepare more and really go for the big competitions,” Sorenstam told Swedish broadcaster SVT.
“I have seen the X-rays and there’s an injury that has been there for a long time and I have just kept on playing,”
“I think it’s realistic. This year I had planned for it, but it didn’t happen,” Sorenstam said. “I trained really hard in February and it is probably one of the reasons why I obtained this injury.”
Seve Prepares For Champions Tour Debut

5 Time Major Champion, Seve Ballesteros has turned 50. I for one, as a golf fan from the 1980’s, feel a little bit older with Seve’s recent birthday. Still, other golf fans from that era remember what a force of nature and just how dominant this Spaniard could be. In a brief careerthat was all but over by his early thirties; Seve won 3 British Opens, 2 Masters, over 60 European Tour Events and almost single handily changed the face of the Ryder Cup. However, something happened to Seve’s game in the lat 80’s – in that he literally could no longer find the golf course with his driver. He had never been a straight hitter – but got to the point where he washitting 2 fairways and 5 greens a round. And even a man of his enormous talent couldn’t compete hitting it this poorly. I hope Seve finds some magic again, because other than Tiger Woods, he may just be the most talented golfer of the last 50 years.
